Lions Sign Free Agent CB, DeShawn Shead, to 1-year Deal.
Lions have just added more depth to their secondary roster this evening by signing former Seattle Seahawk CB, DeShawn Shead. According to Bleacher Report, Shead signed a 1-year deal worth $3.5 million, which could possibly be worth $6.5 million based on incentives for playing time.
Shead was an undrafted free-agent who was picked up by the Seahawks, where he spent the first six seasons of his career. In 2016, Shead started 15 games for the Seahawks and had a career-high of 57 tackles, according to statistics from NFL.com.
Shead then suffered a torn ACL in the 2017 post-season, and did not return until week 16 of this recent season.
I like that the Lions are adding valuable depth to their already efficient secondary. According to ESPN.com, Detroit ranked fourth in interceptions last year, but ranked 15th in total tackles. The rush defense is no longer the highlight of their defensive system, but adding a seasoned corner-back to an already dominant secondary could make their defense shine.
Despite the rankings, Detroit may already have one of the best, if not the best, secondaries in the league, and the addition of DeShawn Shead could ultimately put them on top.
But then again, these are the Lions we are talking about.
